HUITACA FILMS

Huitaca or as the Muisca ( Muysca) people called her, Xubchasgagua, was a goddess that utilized art, dance, music, sexuality, and drink to rebel against the oppressive nature of Bochica, a being from the East. According to the myth, she attempted to free the Muisca from Bochica. Myths in Muisca society were not always the basis of religion but rather an explanation for current events. In this case, it was the invasion and colonization of indigenous America, the destruction of Muisca civilization. Huitaca is also believed to be one of the phases of the moon. She was the waxing phase of the moon deity, Chia. Once Huitaca, rebelled she was turned into an owl by Bochica.

Huitaca Film’s goal is to spotlight distinct voices that are in need of listening, voices that are ignored, that live in silence. Huitaca Films focuses on narratives whose subjective experience, have never been included in the dialogue of how society forms “truth” or history. Experiences of people who have lived through history, but have never been included in its construction.

Huitaca Films believes that dialogue can occur if the sharing of experiences goes along with meaningful listening. Huitaca Films wishes to listen and highlight the narratives of silenced individuals because they have no voice in the shaping of the spaces we all share. As a result, it affects our collective health. It denies us an opportunity to heal.

Huitaca Films is interested in finding the depth of its subject, in order to tell a story. Huitaca Films understands that the depths are endless.

Quien Somos?

Huitaca o como los Muisca (Muysca) la llamaban, Xubchasgagua, era una deidad que utilizaba el arte, danza, música, sexualidad, y la bebida para rebelarse contra la opresión del ser llamado Bochica, un ser del Este. 

El mito cuenta que ella intentó liberar a los Muisca de Bochica. Los mitos para los Muisca no eran siempre amarrados con la religión, pero más bien una explicación de eventos que pasaban en su sociedad. En este caso, fue la invasión y colonización de los indígenas, la destrucción de la cultura Muisca. Huitaca, también simbolizaba una fase de la luna. Ella era la luna creciente de la deidad lunar, llamada Chia. Cuando Huitaca se rebeló, fue transformada en un Búho por Bochica.

Huitaca Films se enfoca en iluminar a voces distintas. Voces que están en necesidad de ser escuchadas. Voces que son ignoradas y que viven en silencio. Huitaca Films se enfoca en narrativas que han sido excluidas de la formación de la “verdad” o la historia. Experiencias de personas que han vivido la historia, pero nunca han sido incluidas en su construcción.

Huitaca Films cree que el diálogo puede ocurrir si el compartir experiencias al narrar fluye con igual intensidad que la seria atención por escuchar. Huitaca Films quiere escuchar y dar enfoque a las voces silenciadas porque aquellas no tienen voz en la construcción de los espacios que todos compartimos. Esto afecta nuestra salud colectiva. Nos niega una oportunidad para sanar.

Huitaca films busca la profundidad de un tema, para poder contar una historia. Huitaca Films entiende que la profundidad es eterna.
