This project is a collection of interviews carried out during the Summer of 2021 with business owners in the North 5th Street, Olney neighborhood, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. From hair salons and restaurants to quinceañera dress shops, business owners provided tips on how businesses could augment pedestrian and vehicular attention by changing the look of their storefront. This neighborhood has a lot of advice to give! It was a Huitaca Films joint project with the Community Design Collaborative, Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (Storefront Improvement Program), and the North 5th Street Revitalization Project.
The following interviews would not have been possible without the help from: Robin Kohles – Consultant for the Community Design Collaborative. Kareema Abusaab – Manager of corridor improvements for the Philadelphia department of Commerce. Evan Hertzog (organization and planning), Heather Liang (Translation), Vanahi Diaz (Assistant), and Stephanie Michel (director) with the North 5th Street Revitalization Project. Furthermore, all the business owners who were willing to share their stories. Filming, Editing, and Music by Leandro Cortes Montaño
